When the conversation turns to civic education, they talk primarily about education for young people and rarely about civic education for representatives of other generations. And it is extremely rare to hear about civil education for the elderly at all.

What is the reason for this?

With the fact that older people in the Eastern Partnership countries, as well as in Russia, are still considered the most conservative part of society, it makes no sense to work with them?

With the fact that they do not believe that they can somehow influence what is happening in society?

Or maybe it’s because there are very few providers of civic education who want and know how to work with this age group?

We will talk about this, as well as about what civic education for the elderly can be, whether it is worth “investing” in it, how to help older people believe in their need and importance in the final issue of the EENCE podcast “Civic Online Education”.

For many years, she worked as an expert of the Swiss Red Cross on the activation of older people (in Belarus, Bulgaria, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Armenia, Kyrgyzstan and a number of other countries). Civil society should conduct an open dialogue with the State in order to encourage politicians to make appropriate decisions and move from calls to actions.

The education of environmental citizenship should provide citizens with the necessary competencies to achieve this goal.

Political and communication skills are the most important assets needed by environmentalists, as well as knowledge, attitudes and values focused on environmental protection and sustainable development to motivate them to take responsibility for actions.

New generations have been accustomed to video games since childhood, so the transfer of competitive and encouraging methods fits more organically into their lives. Modern online training services abandon the paradigm of a single program as an ” educational pipe”, which the user must pass from the beginning to the end.

Online, the user is less focused and has more freedom of choice.

The concept of online learning should reflect this freedom.

In this issue of the podcast “Civic Online Education”, we talked about how gamification can change our approach to civic online education, and how it helps participants in the process of civic education to acquire the necessary knowledge and skills, and why gamification is an integral tool for civic online education in the future.

Digital literacy is not just about knowledge of digital technologies. It requires thinking skills, an understanding of the necessary standards of behavior (including security) expected in an online environment, and an understanding of the general social problems created by digital technologies.

During the discussion, we talked about what digital literacy is and why it is important after COVID-19, what competencies are included in the concept of digital literacy and how to develop them, we considered examples of civic education programs in this area.

Today, education in the field of digital technologies is required for almost everyone. The speaker of the podcast Nikolay Popadyuk, a teacher of social disciplines, an ambassador of digital education, a presenter of the online course “Digital skills for teachers” within the framework of the project “Dia: Digital Education” (“Dia: Digital Education”), a coach of the “Academy of Digital Development” (Ukraine), a certified Google coach, is sure of this.
