The working Group “Civic Online Education” invites you to a live broadcast of the final tenth issue of the EENCE podcast.

The discussion will take place on September 30, 2021, starting at 12.00 (GMT +3).

You can join the stream here. The audio version of the podcast will be published later in the Podcasts section.

When the conversation turns to civic education, they talk primarily about education for young people and rarely about civic education for representatives of other generations. And it is extremely rare to hear about civil education for the elderly at all.

What is the reason for this?

With the fact that older people in the Eastern Partnership countries, as well as in Russia, are still considered the most conservative part of society, it makes no sense to work with them?

With the fact that they do not believe that they can somehow influence what is happening in society?

Or maybe it’s because there are very few providers of civic education who want and know how to work with this age group?

We will talk about this, as well as about what civic education for the elderly can be, whether it is worth “investing” in it, how to help older people believe in their need and importance in the final issue of the EENCE podcast “Civic Online Education”.

The working language of the event is Russian.

Moderator and speaker: Vitaut Rudnik, member of the Coordinating Council of the Eastern European Network of Civic Education, Chairman of the Board of the NGO “Center” Third Sector” (Grodno, Belarus), trainer and expert in the field of civic education and adult education.

Speaker: Raisa Sinelnikova, expert on aging. For many years, she worked as an expert of the Swiss Red Cross on the activation of older people (in Belarus, Bulgaria, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Armenia, Kyrgyzstan and a number of other countries). Expert of the coalition “For Decent Longevity” (Belarus).

We continue to dive into the topic of ecology together with a youth worker, a member of the Youth Advisory Council, coach Teona Sadradze (Georgia) in the new EENCE-podcasts.

From this podcast, you will learn what environmental sustainability is, how it works and how it affects civil society, what needs to be done to improve environmental sustainability in real life.

“We need to become more attentive to the environment: to gain knowledge, to be eco-friendly, to promote the eco-movement in society, in schools. Often, knowledge about the environment is provided within the framework of the Biology subject, but it is worth remembering that first of all everything depends on our daily personal habits, ” says Teona Sadradze. – Knowledge, skills and competencies in the field of environmental sustainability will help us solve real problems, from local to global. Teachers, mentors, trainers can effectively transmit such knowledge and be motivators for civil society”

Civil society should conduct an open dialogue with the State in order to encourage politicians to make appropriate decisions and move from calls to actions.

The education of environmental citizenship should provide citizens with the necessary competencies to achieve this goal.

Political and communication skills are the most important assets needed by environmentalists, as well as knowledge, attitudes and values focused on environmental protection and sustainable development to motivate them to take responsibility for actions.

You can listen to Teona’s previous conversation about eco-activism here.

A youth worker, a member of the Youth Advisory Council, coach Teona Sadradze (Georgia) tells about such a relevant movement as eco-activism in the last few decades in the next issue of EENCE Podcasts.

Why is it important to talk about eco-activism? What environmental activities are there among young people? How is the movement organized in Georgia? What is happening now among eco-activists in the world in Georgia? The answers to all the questions can be found if you click Play!

Theona Sadradze is sure that eco-activism is not book rules, but daily useful habits available to everyone:

“We live on the planet Earth and we must follow certain rules in order to be in harmony with this planet. Many mistakes that we made in the past lead to global problems today. Every day we need to ask ourselves the question: how can I help the planet in times of global warming?”

The popularity of eco-activism has accelerated in the digital age, and thanks to the achievements of digitalization, it has become easier to share the best experiences and adapt good examples around the world.

The project is supported by the Federal Agency for Civic Education (Bundeszentrale für politische Bildung / bpb) with funds allocated by the Federal Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

How to motivate people to take part in the process of civic education? What can be the motivation for obtaining the knowledge and skills necessary for building a civil society? How to make the process of online civic education more interesting and effective for its participants?

In the next podcast of the Working Group “Civic Education Online ” you will be able to find answers to all these questions.

New generations have been accustomed to video games since childhood, so the transfer of competitive and encouraging methods fits more organically into their lives. Modern online training services abandon the paradigm of a single program as an ” educational pipe”, which the user must pass from the beginning to the end.

Online, the user is less focused and has more freedom of choice.

The concept of online learning should reflect this freedom.

In this issue of the podcast “Civic Online Education”, we talked about how gamification can change our approach to civic online education, and how it helps participants in the process of civic education to acquire the necessary knowledge and skills, and why gamification is an integral tool for civic online education in the future.

Ilya Safronov, tutor of the digital arts studios “Martian Teapots”, coach of the NGO “Center for Lifelong Education”shared his experience:

“Nowadays, people like to play games. Both adults, children, and teenagers. Therefore, game elements should be used as often as possible in education. Civil organizations should definitely introduce gamification into their educational process!”

The COVID-19 pandemic has brought many people’s lives online. Were they ready for this? Can we talk about the digital literacy of the population of the Eastern Partnership countries? Such issues were discussed during the fourth podcast of the Working Group “Civic Education Online”.

Digital literacy is not just about knowledge of digital technologies. It requires thinking skills, an understanding of the necessary standards of behavior (including security) expected in an online environment, and an understanding of the general social problems created by digital technologies.

During the discussion, we talked about what digital literacy is and why it is important after COVID-19, what competencies are included in the concept of digital literacy and how to develop them, we considered examples of civic education programs in this area.

Today, education in the field of digital technologies is required for almost everyone. The speaker of the podcast Nikolay Popadyuk, a teacher of social disciplines, an ambassador of digital education, a presenter of the online course “Digital skills for teachers” within the framework of the project “Dia: Digital Education” (“Dia: Digital Education”), a coach of the “Academy of Digital Development” (Ukraine), a certified Google coach, is sure of this.

We talked about digital competencies and their spheres of influence in the modern world, the necessary knowledge for organizing your own educational program, and responsibility for digital literacy. We touched upon the topic of motivation to learn digital literacy.

In addition, Nikolay Popadyuk shared useful resources with which you can determine your level of digital literacy.
