Implementing a trauma-informed approach in citizenship education: we invite you to participate in the Semirar
The Democratic Initiatives Incubator (Ukraine) invites to participate in the workshop ‘Implementing a trauma-informed approach in citizenship education’ to be held 19-22 August 2024 in Warsaw (Poland).
Participants of the seminar will be able to:
- Increase their awareness of the trauma-informed approach and its features in the context of citizenship education.
- Carry out practical exercises on applying a trauma-informed approach in the context of armed conflicts, forced migration, experiences of discrimination.
- Exchange experiences and practices of a trauma-informed approach.
- To visit places in Warsaw related to working through the experience of collective trauma and to discuss the experience with colleagues in the context of citizenship education.
Experts in citizenship education and related fields from the Eastern Partnership countries, as well as those who are currently in forced migration in the EU countries, are invited to participate in the seminar. In the first place we expect people who already have practices and experience of working with people with traumatic experiences or people who have a clear opportunity to start working with this target group.
Please note that the seminar programme includes discussions on challenging issues and experiences – armed conflicts, forced migration, discrimination, etc. These discussions may trigger difficult memories or experiences for the participants of the meeting. We therefore encourage you to consider having an internal resource for participation. In turn, the organisers will make efforts to create a safe space for participants.
The working languages of the event are English and Russian.
It is also expected that, where possible, participants will be able to use the national languages of the participants to support each other.
The organisers will provide selected participants with accommodation in 2-bed rooms and meals during the seminar, as well as travel expenses to and from Warsaw by the most economical means of transport (tickets will have to be purchased independently within the amount agreed with the organisers; travel expenses will be reimbursed during the seminar).
To participate in the seminar, please fill in the registration form until 31.07.2024 inclusive at the following link: https://forms.gle/ZBJWwYqyRHxLpHso9
In case the number of applications exceeds the number of planned places, the organisers will hold a competitive selection process. Criteria for the selection of participants:
- Motivation to participate and willingness to use the results of the seminar in their work.
- Willingness to share their experiences and practices in a trauma-informed approach.
- Geographical and gender balance.
- Active members of the Eastern European Network for Civic Education (EENCE) and the EENCE working group ‘Implementing a trauma-informed approach in citizenship education’ will be given preference in the selection process.
