<p>Instructors and experts from this country have prepared a number of interesting events affecting various aspects of civic education.</p>

<figure class="wp-block-image size-large"><img fetchpriority="high" decoding="async" width="1024" height="1024" src="https://eence.eu/wp-content/uploads/2021/10/nedelja-1024x1024.jpg" alt="Georgia Day was held within the framework of the Citizenship Education Week" class="wp-image-2462" /></figure>

<p>The Day of Georgia began with a discussion about the opportunities and problems of civic education in the country.</p>

<p>Moderator Maka Bibileishvili, Executive Director of CETF, and Nino Gvaramadze, expert of the CE Center for Professional Development of Teachers, reviewed the formal side of civic education in the country.</p>

<p>Maya Katamadze, Director of the Batumi Center for Education, Development and Employment, and I. A. Kitsmarishvili, a teacher of the CE, also discussed the topic of non-formal education.</p>

<p>The participants of the discussion noted that despite the fact that both educational institutions and NGOs are engaged in civic education, there are still many problems in this area.</p>

<figure class="wp-block-image size-large"><img decoding="async" width="800" height="598" src="https://eence.eu/wp-content/uploads/2021/10/disk-1-e1634203648192.png" alt="Georgia Day was held within the framework of the Citizenship Education Week" class="wp-image-2578" srcset="https://eence.eu/wp-content/uploads/2021/10/disk-1-e1634203648192.png 800w, https://eence.eu/wp-content/uploads/2021/10/disk-1-e1634203648192-300x224.png 300w, https://eence.eu/wp-content/uploads/2021/10/disk-1-e1634203648192-768x574.png 768w" sizes="(max-width: 800px) 100vw, 800px" /></figure>

<p>Among the problems is the lack of understanding by many teachers and teachers of the importance of teaching civic education, the &#8220;soviet&#8221; mentality, which is still characteristic of some teachers.</p>

<p>Among the topics that are most relevant among the participants of civic education programs in Georgia are human rights, the prevention of early marriage, and the development of competencies important for active participation in society.</p>

<p>The participants of the discussion talked about different practices of civic education that are being implemented in different regions of Georgia.</p>

<p>The second event of the day was the presentation of the representative of the National Bank of Georgia, Senior Specialist of the Department of Financial Education Tinatin Gujabidze.</p>

<p>She revealed the topic of financial education as part of civic education in Georgia and shared an example of best practice with the participants.</p>

<figure class="wp-block-image size-large"><img decoding="async" width="800" height="800" src="https://eence.eu/wp-content/uploads/2021/10/fin-3-1024x1024-1-e1634659007395.jpg" alt="Georgia Day was held within the framework of the Citizenship Education Week" class="wp-image-2579" /></figure>

<p>Tinatin Gujabidze spoke about the experience of the financial literacy program, which is being implemented in Georgian schools with the support of the National Bank of Georgia. After the presentation, the speaker answered questions from the audience.</p>

<figure class="wp-block-image size-large"><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" width="800" height="450" src="https://eence.eu/wp-content/uploads/2021/10/fin-1-1024x576-1-e1634659060882.png" alt="Georgia Day was held within the framework of the Citizenship Education Week" class="wp-image-2580" /></figure>

<p>A lively discussion unfolded at the seminar <a href="https://cew2021.eence.eu/ru/raspisanie/#timetable-1-popup-44" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">&#8220;Critical Hermeneutics, critical Cosmopolitanism and critical Pedagogy – what teachers teach to teach&#8221;</a>, which was conducted by Ekuna Gogoberishvili, a graduate student of comparative education at Stockholm University, with extensive experience working with youth and teachers.</p>

<p>During the session, she presented her research interests – how critical perspectives are applied in teacher education together &#8211; with results and recommendations.</p>

<figure class="wp-block-image size-large"><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" width="800" height="425" src="https://eence.eu/wp-content/uploads/2021/10/ekuna-23-1024x544-1-e1634659152880.png" alt="Georgia Day was held within the framework of the Citizenship Education Week" class="wp-image-2581" /></figure>

<p>The culmination of the day was the presentation of the <a href="https://cew2021.eence.eu/ru/raspisanie/#timetable-1-popup-77" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Week of Civic Education in Georgian Schools</a>, during which the principals and teachers of participating schools presented their works.</p>

<p>In total, since the beginning of October, more than 50 Georgian schools have participated in the Week of Civic Education and held various events.</p>

<p>Event reports will be available online after the end of the Week and the award ceremony on October 17.</p>

<figure class="wp-block-image size-large"><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" width="800" height="427" src="https://eence.eu/wp-content/uploads/2021/10/shkola-1-1024x546-1-e1634659214628.png" alt="Georgia Day was held within the framework of the Citizenship Education Week" class="wp-image-2582" /></figure>

<p>During the training, <a href="https://cew2021.eence.eu/ru/raspisanie/#timetable-1-popup-87" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Conflict Transformation and Peace Building</a>, participants discussed different approaches to conflict resolution based on international practice.</p>

<p>After the event, expert Gvantsa Davitelashvili shared her experience in promoting the youth peace camp of the Council of Europe, developing educational tools and gamification methods for informal activities.</p>

<p>In conclusion, she shared a lot of useful links with the participants of the session.</p>

<figure class="wp-block-image size-large"><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" width="800" height="450" src="https://eence.eu/wp-content/uploads/2021/10/pisbuld-1024x576-1-e1634659303425.png" alt="Georgia Day was held within the framework of the Citizenship Education Week" class="wp-image-2583" /></figure>

<p>The program of the &#8220;georgian&#8221; day of the Week was completed by a presentation and a <a href="https://cew2021.eence.eu/ru/raspisanie/#timetable-1-popup-99" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Digital Resistance </a>master class.</p>

<p>It was followed by a discussion on the importance of media literacy and education in the field of digital citizenship: participants held a brainstorming session on how to teach digital citizenship and bring it to youth groups.</p>

<figure class="wp-block-image size-large"><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" width="800" height="450" src="https://eence.eu/wp-content/uploads/2021/10/didzhital-1-1024x576-1-e1634659357541.png" alt="Georgia Day was held within the framework of the Citizenship Education Week" class="wp-image-2584" /></figure>

<p>On the same day, several more events of the Week were held, organized by instructors from Azerbaijan, Belarus and Moldova.</p>

<p>The Citizenship Education Week EENCE was closed on October 17 by Ukraine. Discussions, workshops, seminars, and games were held on this day.</p>

<p>Civil society in Ukraine remains strong, and the challenges that modern reality throws up only strengthen it. Providers of civic education in Ukraine generously shared best practices and openly discussed the current agenda.</p>

<p>Traditionally, the day began with a panel discussion <a href="https://fb.me/e/31IDZQV3E" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">&#8220;Features and challenges of civic education in Ukraine&#8221;</a>.</p>

<p>It was attended by <strong>Sergey Burov</strong> (Director of the House of Human Rights, Chernihiv), <strong>Alexandra Kozorog</strong> (coordinator of educational projects of the Ukrainian Helsinki Union for Human Rights), <strong>Vladimir Selivanenko</strong> (Candidate of Law, coordinator of educational programs of Amnesty International in Ukraine).</p>

<p>The discussion was moderated by <strong>Nazariy Boyarsky</strong>, coordinator of the Week of Civic Education in Ukraine, member of the Board of the public organization &#8220;Vector of Human Rights&#8221;.</p>

<figure class="wp-block-image size-large"><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" width="800" height="500" src="https://eence.eu/wp-content/uploads/2021/10/nazarij-bojarskij.png" alt="What, where, when and other issues about civic education in Ukraine were considered during the Citizenship Education Week" class="wp-image-2653" srcset="https://eence.eu/wp-content/uploads/2021/10/nazarij-bojarskij.png 800w, https://eence.eu/wp-content/uploads/2021/10/nazarij-bojarskij-300x188.png 300w, https://eence.eu/wp-content/uploads/2021/10/nazarij-bojarskij-768x480.png 768w" sizes="(max-width: 800px) 100vw, 800px" /></figure>

<p>During the event, experts discussed the content of the <a href="https://zakon.rada.gov.ua/laws/show/710-2018-%25D1%2580#Text" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Concept</a> of the Development of Civic Education in Ukraine, the impact on civil society and civic education programs that the temporary occupation of Crimea by the Russian Federation, the armed conflict in Ukraine and COVID-19 had.</p>

<figure class="wp-block-image size-large"><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" width="800" height="800" src="https://eence.eu/wp-content/uploads/2021/10/ukraine-1-1024x1024-1-e1634731298256.jpg" alt="What, where, when and other issues about civic education in Ukraine were considered during the Citizenship Education Week" class="wp-image-2654"/></figure>

<p>The day continued with the seminar <a href="https://fb.me/e/1RbiCffqk" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">&#8220;Using the theater of the oppressed to promote peace-building&#8221;</a>.</p>

<p>It was conducted by <strong>Yana Salakhova,</strong> the joker of the theater of the oppressed, the head of the public organization &#8220;Theater of Changes&#8221;, co-founder of the festival of participatory theater practices for Eastern European countries &#8220;Theater on the Borders&#8221;, an independent expert on discrimination, hate speech and hate crimes in Ukraine.</p>

<p>The seminar consisted of two parts &#8211; open to everyone about the methodology itself and closed to registered participants who were able to work out personal stories.</p>

<p>A special highlight of the day was the game <a href="https://fb.me/e/4ajVGeVea" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">&#8220;What? Where? When?&#8221;</a> for everyone.</p>

<p>38 people from Ukraine, Belarus, Russia and Armenia were looking for answers to questions about human rights under the leadership of <strong>Alexandra Romantsova</strong>, executive director of the public organization &#8220;Center for Civil Liberties&#8221;.</p>

<p>The correct answers and the questions themselves were commented in detail from the point of view of the concept of human rights.</p>

<p>The evening program was opened by a master class on data visualization tools for civil education providers <a href="https://fb.me/e/1cvWTQDpi" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">&#8220;Visualize it!&#8221;</a>.</p>

<p>It was conducted by <strong>Olga Chizhova</strong>, Director of Communications at the analytical center &#8220;Ukrainian Prism&#8221;, co-founder of the international professional association Digital Communication Network.</p>

<figure class="wp-block-image size-large"><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" width="800" height="500" src="https://eence.eu/wp-content/uploads/2021/10/olga-2.png" alt="What, where, when and other issues about civic education in Ukraine were considered during the Citizenship Education Week" class="wp-image-2655" srcset="https://eence.eu/wp-content/uploads/2021/10/olga-2.png 800w, https://eence.eu/wp-content/uploads/2021/10/olga-2-300x188.png 300w, https://eence.eu/wp-content/uploads/2021/10/olga-2-768x480.png 768w" sizes="(max-width: 800px) 100vw, 800px" /></figure>

<p>The participants and participants of the master class learned how to use social networks more effectively to promote civic education programs, how to create pictures, videos, graphics and other illustrations using available free programs.</p>

<p>The program of key events of the day was completed by a conversation between<strong> Nazari Boyarsky</strong>, a human rights activist, an expert on the prevention and combating of discrimination, a member of the coaching pool of the Youth Department of the Council of Europe, and Olga Vesnyanka, a human rights activist, media expert, consultant of the Council of Europe on countering hate speech in the Eastern Partnership countries.</p>

<p>The informal conversation was devoted to a topic more relevant than ever – <a href="https://fb.me/e/2Aaqwds39" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">&#8220;The language of enmity: features of online counteraction&#8221;</a>. Nazari and Olga explained how the language of hostility is understood, where it can manifest itself and why it is dangerous, and, most importantly, how to behave in social networks in order to counteract its spread.</p>

<p>On October 16, the participants of the Civic Education Week focused on the situation with civic education in Russia. Experts and trainers from this country also presented the methods they use in the framework of projects and programs on civic education.</p>

<p>At the panel discussion, they talked about difficulties, actors, trends in the field of civic education.</p>

<p>The speakers &#8211; Elena Bobrovskaya, Mikhail Bortnikov and Elvin Gurbanov &#8211; said that the current topic now is participatory design, including in small towns and villages, and the topic of Sustainable Development Goals is gaining momentum.</p>

<figure class="wp-block-image size-large"><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" width="1024" height="655" src="https://eence.eu/wp-content/uploads/2021/09/art-1024x655.png" alt="Citizenship Education Week: Russia Day" class="wp-image-2277"/></figure>

<p>Of the Sustainable Development Goals, the topic of environmental education is the most understandable.</p>

<p>Vadim Matveev and Alina Kalowska spoke about games in civic education with an emphasis on environmental games. Follow the link to find the online course <a href="https://stepik.org/course/84952/promo" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">&#8220;Games in Civic Education&#8221;</a>.</p>

<p>On the 5th day of the Citizenship Education Week, 13 activities were organized and carried out by organizations and experts from Moldova, Ukraine, Azerbaijan and Georgia. The format of the activities was very diverse: panel discussions, presentation of the results of the studies, round tables, seminars and workshops. Some activities were carried out online, to facilitate the participation of people from several countries, and others – with direct contact.</p>

<p>Citizenship Education Day in the Republic Of Moldova started with a “hot” discussion on the characteristics and challenges of civic education in the Republic Of Moldova.</p>

<p>The event was attended by 31 people from Moldova, Ukraine, Belarus Russia. As moderator was&nbsp;<strong>Veronica Garbuz</strong>, representative of the NGO&nbsp;<strong><a href="https://aomostenitorii.wordpress.com/despre-mostenitorii/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">“Mostenitorii”</a></strong>, coordinator of the Week in Moldova.</p>

<figure class="wp-block-image size-large"><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" width="530" height="530" src="https://eence.eu/wp-content/uploads/2021/10/veronica.jpg" alt="Day 5 of Citizenship Education Week: Moldova" class="wp-image-2620" srcset="https://eence.eu/wp-content/uploads/2021/10/veronica.jpg 530w, https://eence.eu/wp-content/uploads/2021/10/veronica-300x300.jpg 300w, https://eence.eu/wp-content/uploads/2021/10/veronica-150x150.jpg 150w" sizes="(max-width: 530px) 100vw, 530px" /></figure>

<p>During the constructive discussions, the emphasis was on:</p>

<p>– conceptualization of civic education in the Republic of Moldova;</p>

<p>– the main challenges of civic education in the context of the COVID-19 pandemic;</p>

<p>– the main providers of civic education;</p>

<p>– the main projects implemented in the field of civic education;</p>

<p>– prospects for the development of civic education in the Republic Of Moldova.</p>

<figure class="wp-block-image size-large"><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" width="628" height="320" src="https://eence.eu/wp-content/uploads/2021/10/moldova-disc.jpg" alt="Day 5 of Citizenship Education Week: Moldova" class="wp-image-2621" srcset="https://eence.eu/wp-content/uploads/2021/10/moldova-disc.jpg 628w, https://eence.eu/wp-content/uploads/2021/10/moldova-disc-300x153.jpg 300w" sizes="(max-width: 628px) 100vw, 628px" /></figure>

<p>The invited experts are of the opinion that we are living in a period in which it is necessary to train citizens involved in social and political life. The aim is not only to ensure that the values of democracy will prosper, but also to encourage social cohesion in the conditions of increasing social and cultural diversity.</p>

<p>At the same time, it was emphasized that although there are several efforts in the field of civic education at the national level, they are not systemic. Moreover, civic education in schools is treated as an optional discipline, teachers do not have the proper training.</p>

<p>At community level there is an acute need to invest in the participation of citizens in community life, public decision-making and in processes that give them a sense of power in relation to decision-makers.</p>

<p>At the end of the panel discussion, it was concluded that in order to achieve important results in the field of civic activism, the SYNERGY EFFECT, obtained through working with community actors, which will bring added value to the efforts made, is needed.</p>

<p>The discussion “Resilience Measures to Save and Create Jobs in the Context of the COVID – 19 Pandemic: Challenges for Civic Education Providers”, was moderated by&nbsp;<strong>Liliana Postan</strong>, PhD, trainer, member of the Working Group of the CSF VP No. 5 “Social and labor policy and social dialogue”.</p>

<p>The main topics addressed were:</p>

<p>– identification of the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on the labor market: layoffs, migrations, re-profiling;</p>

<p>– analysis of positive and negative effects;</p>

<p>– comparison of the practice of the Republic of Moldova in the field of employment with the practice of employment in other countries;</p>

<p>– challenges for civic education providers.</p>

<figure class="wp-block-image size-large"><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" width="628" height="324" src="https://eence.eu/wp-content/uploads/2021/10/liliana-2.jpg" alt="Day 5 of Citizenship Education Week: Moldova" class="wp-image-2623" srcset="https://eence.eu/wp-content/uploads/2021/10/liliana-2.jpg 628w, https://eence.eu/wp-content/uploads/2021/10/liliana-2-300x155.jpg 300w" sizes="(max-width: 628px) 100vw, 628px" /></figure>

<p>The discussion was attended by 32 people from Moldova, Ukraine, Belarus and Russia.</p>

<p>The results of the study on “Mapping civil society organizations in the security and defense sector of the Republic Of Moldova”, presented by&nbsp;<strong>Elena Marzac</strong>, executive Director of the information and Documentation Center on NATO in the Republic of Moldova, highlighted the role of civil society organizations in the security and defense sector.</p>

<p>The seminar “Identification of “difficult participants” and effective use of interaction techniques”, conducted by&nbsp;<strong>Vasile Garbuz</strong>, expert in psychology and organizational management, aroused the curiosity of the participants.</p>

<figure class="wp-block-image size-large"><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" width="457" height="459" src="https://eence.eu/wp-content/uploads/2021/10/vasily-garbuz.jpg" alt="Day 5 of Citizenship Education Week: Moldova" class="wp-image-2626" srcset="https://eence.eu/wp-content/uploads/2021/10/vasily-garbuz.jpg 457w, https://eence.eu/wp-content/uploads/2021/10/vasily-garbuz-300x300.jpg 300w, https://eence.eu/wp-content/uploads/2021/10/vasily-garbuz-150x150.jpg 150w" sizes="(max-width: 457px) 100vw, 457px" /></figure>

<figure class="wp-block-image size-large"><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" width="628" height="326" src="https://eence.eu/wp-content/uploads/2021/10/vasily-2.jpg" alt="Day 5 of Citizenship Education Week: Moldova" class="wp-image-2627" srcset="https://eence.eu/wp-content/uploads/2021/10/vasily-2.jpg 628w, https://eence.eu/wp-content/uploads/2021/10/vasily-2-300x156.jpg 300w" sizes="(max-width: 628px) 100vw, 628px" /></figure>

<p>The final conclusion of the seminar was : “Difficult people may be present in the working groups, but in order to successfully manage the different difficult situations and react correctly to the different attitudes and behaviors of the tough participants you meet, one thing you have to take into account is never to take something personal”.</p>

<p>At the end of the day, the spirits were ignited by the seminar “Flash mob as a form of civic education”, led by the trainer&nbsp;<strong>Eugenia Foca</strong>.</p>

<figure class="wp-block-image size-large"><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" width="457" height="462" src="https://eence.eu/wp-content/uploads/2021/10/foca.jpg" alt="Day 5 of Citizenship Education Week: Moldova" class="wp-image-2628" srcset="https://eence.eu/wp-content/uploads/2021/10/foca.jpg 457w, https://eence.eu/wp-content/uploads/2021/10/foca-297x300.jpg 297w" sizes="(max-width: 457px) 100vw, 457px" /></figure>

<p>The participants discovered the flash mob technique as a method of expressing opinion and civic position. They were surprised that the flash-mob can be deployed both offline and online.</p>

<figure class="wp-block-image size-large"><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" width="628" height="324" src="https://eence.eu/wp-content/uploads/2021/10/foca-2.jpg" alt="Day 5 of Citizenship Education Week: Moldova" class="wp-image-2629" srcset="https://eence.eu/wp-content/uploads/2021/10/foca-2.jpg 628w, https://eence.eu/wp-content/uploads/2021/10/foca-2-300x155.jpg 300w" sizes="(max-width: 628px) 100vw, 628px" /></figure>
