Online manual “Citizenship Education at Regional Conflict Zones” has been published
The publication is the result of the work of the EENCE working group “Citizenship Education at Regional Conflict Zones”.
In 2020, the members of the group held informational meetings on the situation with civil education in certain territories of regional conflicts, where the situations was discussed with citizenship education in Abkhazia and South Ossetia, in the Donbas and in the Transnistrian region.
During the thematic international information meetings, they talked about peacekeeping programs in the territories of regional conflicts, about women in regional conflicts. The results of these and other events became the basis of the publication.
“The publication is almost the first attempt of the public to look at the situation with education (and citizenship education in particular) in the zones of regional conflicts, to compare the experience of various organizations and institutions in this area and provide practical recommendations. This is an invitation to dialogue and reflection on how to contribute to the resolution of conflicts in a peaceful way through citizenship education”, – the authors note in the introductory part.
The manual presents the understanding of conflicts in the modern world, provides an overview of regional conflicts in the Eastern Partnership countries and Russia.
The state of formal and non-formal education in the conflict areas is analyzed. Attention is paid to the specifics of planning and implementing citizenship education programs in conflict areas and for people from such territories.
Examples of the best educational practices are given. Tips on physical and digital security will be useful for the reader.
Experts from different Eastern Partnership countries participated in the preparation of the manual.
The manual is published in Russian and English.
